The girls golf team from Wilson High fell just short of advancing to next week's CIF Team Qualifier, finishing in seventh place at the CIF Southern Team Regional Monday at Mile Square Golf Course in Fountain Valley.
The Bruins finished with a five-player team score of 417, two shots behind fourth-place Yorba Linda. The top four teams qualified for the WSCGA Team Qualifier next week at The Legends Golf Club in Temecula. Mater Dei was the winner, finishing well ahead of the pack at 380. Tesoro (395), Dana Hills (397) and Yorba Linda rounded out the top four.
Still, Wilson's score through nine holes (209) was well below its season average of about 217, and coach Jeff Evans said he was happy with the results.
"That's a really good score for us," Evans said. "Our girls played really well today and I'm proud of them. ... It was a nice way to end the season. I know they would have liked to continue ... but it went really about as well as it could."
Wilson junior Alicia Arzaga had the best individual finish for an area player, recording two birdies and carding a 2-over 74 to finish tied for eighth.
