Intel CFO pleased with Windows 8 market

Following the company's earnings report Thursday, Intel Corp. Chief Financial Officer Stacy Smith said in a Fox Business Network interview that he's "quite pleased" with the Windows 8 market, but noted that the Microsoft Corp. operating system was released late in the buying season.

Mr. Smith expects the recent "tremendous product cycle" and global economic improvement to lead to "acceleration in the back half" of 2013.

Regarding the adoption of Intel chips in smartphones, Mr. Smith told Fox Business "I don't think it moves the needle" for 2013 revenue, but said the company has had "design win momentum" in that sector.

Asked about the release of financial results slightly before the closing bell, Mr. Smith said Intel is looking into "where in the process" the release took place.

Intel posted net income of $2.5 billion, down from $3.4 billion in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue fell 3% to $13.5 billion.
